Building Sustainable Beef Solutions for Kenya
Our Mission
Our Vision
Our Core Values
Our Story
Founded in 2023, Gatiko Company began as a small-scale livestock farming initiative aimed at supplying quality cattle to local markets in Laikipia County. Over time, increasing demand for beef, climate challenges, and changing market requirements pushed the company to evolve and innovate.
From 2023, Gatiko transitioned into commercial feedlot operations, enabling better control of animal health, nutrition, and weight gain. This move significantly improved consistency and quality. The company also invested in fodder production, reducing reliance on seasonal grazing and ensuring year-round feed availability.

Our Impact
Transforming Lives Through Agriculture
At Gatiko, we measure success not just in numbers, but in the real changes we see in farming communities. Our impact extends beyond increased milk yields and healthier animals to improved household incomes, children attending school, and communities building resilience against climate shocks.
As we look to the future, our vision extends beyond what we’ve achieved. We’re committed to continuous innovation and expansion to serve even more farmers across East Africa.
We control every step — from growing feed crops to delivering beef to market. Our strategic location, professional management, and rigorous quality standards ensure that every animal leaving Gatiko’s feedlot represents the very best of Kenyan beef production.
What We Do
Gatiko provides integrated livestock solutions that cover the entire beef value chain. Our services include beef farming and trading, feedlot operations, fodder production, farmer training, and reliable livestock supply.
We focus on producing healthy cattle that meet market specifications while ensuring sustainability, traceability, and efficiency. Our approach balances commercial success with social and environmental responsibility.
Where We Operate
Gatiko’s head office is located in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, with operational sites and farmer partnerships across ASAL counties in Kenya. These strategic locations allow us to source quality livestock, manage feedlots effectively, and supply cattle to buyers nationwide.
Our regional presence strengthens farmer inclusion and ensures efficient logistics and timely delivery.
Procurement
Where We Source Our Animals
Gatiko Company maintains a diversified and carefully managed livestock procurement network. We source cattle from the most productive pastoral and agri-livestock regions in Kenya, working with established markets, experienced traders, and trusted pastoralist communities.
Our primary sourcing regions include:
Our Selection Criteria
Every animal entering the Gatiko feedlot is carefully selected by trained procurement staff. We apply rigorous on-site inspection standards to ensure only the best animals are acquired.
How We Work
Our Beef Value Chain
At Gatiko, we control every link in the beef value chain — from sourcing cattle in the field to preparing animals for market. This vertical integration gives us unmatched control over quality, consistency, and animal welfare at every step.
Animal Sourcing
We source quality livestock from major cattle-producing regions including Garissa, Dadaab, Wajir, Moyale, Isiolo, and Laikipia through established markets, trusted pastoralist networks, and repeat suppliers.
Transportation
Animals are transported using humane loading procedures, planned routes, and properly ventilated vehicles — with trained handlers ensuring minimal stress and optimal animal condition on arrival.
Feedlot Reception
On arrival, each animal is weighed, tagged with a unique ID, assessed by trained staff, and grouped by size and condition. Quarantine and adaptation protocols begin immediately.
Feed Production
We grow and prepare our own feeds — including silage from maize and sorghum, hay, concentrate rations, and mineral supplements — ensuring consistent, nutritionally balanced feeding throughout.
Feedlot Fattening
Bulls move through a carefully managed three-phase feeding programme — Starter (0–30 days), Growing (30–90 days), and Finishing (last 30–60 days) — with daily monitoring and performance tracking.
Market & Dispatch
Market-ready animals are assessed, sorted, graded, and dispatched to butcheries, wholesalers, abattoirs, and partner conservancies — with full documentation and traceability maintained throughout.
Training & Capacity Building
Gatiko Company believes that a well-trained team and an informed industry are the foundations of a thriving beef sector. We invest heavily in the skills development of our own staff and offer structured training programmes to farmers, conservancy workers, and agri-business professionals across Kenya.
Feedlot Operations & Animal Nutrition
Training covers proper feeding practices, ration formulation, feed storage, and consistent feeding schedules to ensure optimal growth and feed efficiency at every stage of the production cycle.
Animal Health, Welfare & Biosecurity
Participants learn disease prevention, early illness detection, vaccination programmes, humane handling techniques, and biosecurity measures designed to minimise health risks and reduce treatment costs.
Feed & Silage Production
Hands-on training in balanced ration formulation, ingredient selection, silage production and storage, and feed handling — enabling trainees to produce and manage high-quality feed for their own operations.
Leadership, Records & Business Management
We train feedlot supervisors and managers in data recording, performance monitoring, cost management, decision-making, and team leadership — building the management capacity needed for scalable, profitable beef enterprises.
